The body of a missing East St. Louis woman was found Wednesday, one day after she was reported missing.
The family of Portia Adams’ says her body was found in the 4800 block of Forest Boulevard in Washington Park around noon. Her family has confirmed with News 4 the body's identity.
"Screams, that's why I ran down here and we just saw her drop down to the ground," Lisa Lacy, the search organizer, described the scene as a family member found the body.
Adams was reported missing after last being seen at 3:30 a.m. Monday leaving her residence, which is located within the John De Shields Housing Complex.
"Really devastated, disappointed, crushed up with the search together hoping and praying that we find her holding on but no one was prepared to find the body," Lacy said.
Adams’ vehicle was found Monday about a mile away, abandoned in Washington Park. The vehicle had blood on the inside and bullet holes.
The Illinois State Police Department was assisting in the search for the missing East St. Louis woman.
Details regarding Adams’ death have not been released.
