(WMTV/CNN/Meredith) -- Mourners in a Wisconsin town attended a vigil Tuesday evening for a little girl found dead near her home earlier in the day.

Kodie Dutcher, 10, went missing Monday afternoon in the town of Baraboo, about 40 miles north of Madison. In less than 24 hours, authorities announced her death.

Police said Kodie’s body was found in a cornfield off the side of a highway, less than a mile from her home.

The circumstances surrounding Kodie’s death are under investigation. The girl’s family told police she took pills before leaving the home, but it's unclear if those pills are related to her death. Kodie left her cell phone and shoes at home. An initial search of Kodie’s home turned up indications that Kodie may have been threatening to harm herself, authorities said.
