SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Betsy Dirksen Londrigan announced on Thursday that she will run for Congress in Illinois’ 13th district.
“I knew I had to run when Congressman Davis cheered and celebrated with Donald on the White House lawn after passing a healthcare bill that could devastate our district. It didn’t make sense to me. That bill had huge negative consequences to our area—from coverage loss to job loss. Healthcare-related services are big employers here in the 13th, so it’s a one-two punch. Now, they want people to pay more for less, increase costs to folks over 50 and roll back protections for people with pre-existing conditions. No way. We deserve better,” Londrigan said.
Londrigan lives in Springfield and has been active in Democratic campaigns for over 20 years. She also works to recruit, support and elect woman candidates for state and local offices through Women Rising, an organization she co-founded.
Londrigan will face off against Republican incumbent Rodney Davis in the 2018 election.
