The Belleville Fire Department responded to 13 calls and seven fire dispatches, in 24 hours this Memorial Day weekend.

Battalion chief officer Randy Schield said the department received about six calls a day. From late Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning, little more than 24 hours, the department received 20 calls.

Of these calls, five were car accidents and four were structure fires. The other calls were for an RV fire, motor vehicle fire, garbage fire, garage fire, a second alarm house fire and a cooking fire.

Schield gave a word of caution in response to these incidents.

"Pay attention to what you're doing," said Schield. "Be safe and watch for fire hazards so you can keep you and your family safe."
