ST. LOUIS ( -- The American Cancer Society is asking people to donate wigs for cancer patients.

Officials told News 4 there is a huge demand for more quality wigs, especially in rural areas.

The organization has a resource center in Farmington that helps get wigs to those in rural areas.

Many cancer patients lose their hair during treatment, so volunteers at the center are hoping more people stop by to donate wigs.

"The wig just gives them the extra confidence to feel pretty again," volunteer Jeane Byers said.

Byers is also a cancer survivor.

"It really makes me feel good to help, so I hope others help too," she said.

The Farmington resource office is located inside the Walgreens at 120 East Karsch Blvd. The main office is located in St. Louis at 4207 Lindell Blvd.

Wigs, hats and head scarfs can be donated at either location.

For more information call the American Cancer Society at 314-286-8160.
