And the winner is... Alton!
Alton, Illinois was one of five finalists for the Small Business Revolution - Main Street competition which offers $500,000 for a revitalization project to the winner.
Voting for the competition ended Tuesday, February 20th and a week later Alton was announced the winner.
Local businesses located in a radius of a mile and half from downtown can apply to be featured on the show.
Applications are being accepted through March 6th. Then the show will narrow down to their final six businesses which will be featured on the show. They will be given advice and some of the proceeds to improve.
Then the city and the six local businesses will be featured on Season 3 of Small Business Revolution – Main Street which will air on Hulu in the Fall.
The other top five cities competing were: Amesbury, MA, Bastrop, TX, Martinez, CA and Siloam Springs, AR.
Wabash, Indiana was the winner of season one of the competition and the mayor, Scott Long, released a statement giving the city leaders of Alton advice in a statement.Wabash, as season one winner of Small Business Revolution, continues to reap the benefits of winning the competition! The six businesses chosen to receive support from our community, continue to see new traffic in their shops/restaurant. The win brought members of our community together, created new friendships, and has fostered a spirit of cooperation that had nearly died out.
Wabash was fortunate to be designated a Stellar Community by the State of Indiana in August 2014 which afforded us the opportunity to begin construction on comprehensive projects in our downtown and that momentum was carried into the Small Business Revolution competition. Success breeds success so I would tell the leaders of Alton to continue pressing forward with their dreams to make their City a great place to live, work and play! Buckle up and hold on, it’s going to be a great ride!
