O’FALLON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A suspect is in custody after stealing a car from a gas station parking lot in St. Charles County early Friday morning.

The O’Fallon, Missouri Police Department said 20-year-old Travis Webb first attempted a carjacking on the QuikTrip parking lot on Highway K. During the attempt, he told the victim he had a firearm.

After failing to steal the vehicle, Webb went to a nearby Mobil on the Run and stole a 2016 Chevrolet Impala that was left running on the parking lot.

"The last thing I need is stress," said Liz Welshans.

Welshans is the owner of the vehicle stolen early Friday morning. She is currently eight months pregnant.

"My husband walked in to get cigarettes then he came back out and it was gone," said Welshans. "He goes there literally every morning, he is in there for two minutes. We didn't think that (leaving the car running) would be an issue."

Officers from Lake St. Louis later stopped the Troy resident on Interstate 64 east of Route 364. He was taken into custody by the O’Fallon Police Department. Officials said no gun was found.

No one was injured.

O’Fallon, Missouri Police said warrants will be applied with the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
