(Meredith) -- Hostess teased the idea of a Twinkie stuffed with peanut butter and pickles earlier this week, and it sent the Internet into a frenzy.
"Only the real ones know about these," the company wrote in a Facebook post.
While the weird food combination upset some people, others thought the idea was brilliant.
"Peanut butter and pickle sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Been eating them my whole life. I swear you guys better make these," one Facebook user wrote.
But some pastry fans on Twitter were outright disgusted, and hoped the "new creation" was just a hoax. Turns out, they were right.
"Peanut Butter & Pickle Sandwich" Twinkies are not happening any time soon.
"This is just some social media levity from Hostess. We regularly feature fun, fictional products on our social media, and this is one of those," a company spokesperson told TODAY.
Hostess has pulled similar stunts in the past. The most recent included a fake launch of mustard-filled Twinkies on National Mustard Day.
