Leverage Dance Theater’s spring concert, “Nine", explores renewal, growth and transition. The title is a reference to the symbology and mythology of the number which reflects the emotional spaces explored in this concert.
In French, the word neuf means both nine and new. For the Hebrews, nine is a symbol of truth. In the Tarot, nine is the card of the Hermit, which symbolizes self-examination and reflection.
When counting, 9 is the last original single digit numeral, which is seen to represent both the end of a period or endeavor and the beginning of a transition or transformation. It inspires reflection as the end of an era nears, much like New Year’s Eve or 1999.
Additionally, in Greek mythology, nine muses were created to give inspiration, knowledge, artistry, and music to the ancient world. They were considered to be the personification of knowledge and the arts, especially in dance, literature and music.
“Nine" brings us to the end of one phase as we explore the state of transition before a new phase begins, reflecting on past accomplishments while looking forward to the potential that comes with the birth of the next phase.
Following the example of the nine muses, the choreographers bringing you this evening-length concert include: Guest artists Robert Poe, Lindsay Hawkins and Hannah Fischer; Artistic Director Diana Barrios; Assistant Director Keli Brook Hermes; Company Member Vance Baldwin.
Due to the unique nature of this concert venue, seating is limited. Audiences are highly encouraged to pre-purchase their tickets. Accommodations for persons with limited mobility should be made in advance with Leverage.
