Sumner High School student killed in North City shooting Wednesday night

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - A 16-year-old Sumner High School student was shot and killed in North City Wednesday night, police tell First Alert 4.

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the 5800 block of Minerva. Antonio Thompson, a junior at Sumner, was pronounced dead at the scene. Thompson was one of 60 children(17 and under) to become a victim of gun violence in the city of St. Louis in 2023, according to data published by St. Louis Police and tracked by First Alert 4.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Antonio Thompson, a sixteen year-old student at Sumner High School. Our hearts go out to his friends, family, and classmates.

SLPS has counselors and other mental health professionals on-site at Sumner to help in any way they can.”
