How Shriners Children’s St. Louis helped a girl named after a superhero live up to her namesake
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - Diana Sanders was named after Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, and at 12 years old she is doing her namesake proud.
Sanders’ scoliosis went undiagnosed until she was about 5 or 6 years old. Her doctor explained to News 4 that she has “scoliosis people would normally see in adolescence” and she also has the “rounding of up the upper back that are much more dramatic than you’d normally see” in a patient.
Sanders said the diagnosis didn’t slow her down much, but when it started to impact her breathing her doctor told her about Shriners Children’s St. Louis. She was put in Halo Tractor, which assists in stretching the spine over time. She will also one day undergo surgery.
Sanders told News 4 she likes the hospital because the size makes it easier to connect with those who are there.
