ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) - A suspect is facing charges after a man was found dead outside of a south St. Louis home in mid-May.

DeAndre Wilkes, 43, of Ferguson is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. The incident happened in the 3800 block of Eichelberger at around 10:42 p.m. on May 14.

Police said the man was found dead at the bottom of an outside stairwell leading to a basement. Witnesses told officers that Wilkes and the victim got into an argument in a nearby gangway before Wilkes fired two shots.

Officers tell News 4 that Wilkes told them that he was arguing with the victim before he fired a warning shot at him. He also told officers the victim then came closer to him and reached toward him before he shot at the victim. Police say the victim then fell down the stairs to the basement.
