As Friday's storms rolled through my hometown of Aviston, IL around 5 pm, I found myself on the back porch watching the storm develop into something very eerie. A rotating funnel cloud had appeared in my back yard only ten feet away from me (see picture 1). Minutes later, that same exact funnel cloud had become enormous! It was still rotating and getting bigger and bigger by the minute...so big that it was touching the tree tops (see picture 2). Thankfully, that's as far as the funnel cloud went...it disappeared back into the storm rolling clouds (see picture 3). An incredibly close call...to close for my comfort. You may be wondering why I was standing outside on my porch...well my hometown does not have weather sirens so I was watching the storm develop myself. Crazy idea...YES...and I will never do it again. That was too close for my comfort.
