ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Police say two women are in custody after a pedestrian was struck during a police chase that started in Wellston and ended near the Edward Jones Dome on Tuesday.

Police said the chase began around 4:15 p.m. as a shoplifting incident at Family Dollar in Wellston. The suspects were fleeing police in a white Dodge Caravan when it reportedly hit a person at the intersection of Kingshighway and Martin Luther King Dr.

Police say the driver also nearly hit the cruiser of the police officer who responded to the shoplifting call.

"She got in her car and tried to strike him and then she took off in east towards the city," said Captain Al Keys of the Wellston Police Department.

The victim, a 60-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say there were at least four kids inside the van during the chase. There was also an infant in a car seat. Paramedics examined them on scene and determined there were no injuries.

"I wouldn't endanger your children by a decision you might make to flee from the police," Keys said.

Police have the female driver in custody but have not released her age or name.

The children are being cared for by other family members.
