(KMOV.com) -- The family of the man suspected of setting a house on fire and killing four children released a statement Wednesday.

It says, “The family of Derrick Twardoski wishes to extend their deep condolences to the Owen family. We are saddened by the events that have affected so many."

12-year-old Ethan Owen, his 9-year-old sister Kailey, pre-kindergarten twins Brandon and Bandan were all killed.

Another child, the mother and father, and a young woman all managed to escape the flames.

The state’s attorney is reportedly seeking life in prison for Twardoski.
