(KMOV) – The St. Louis Police Department is launching the second phase of the latest hot-spot policing initiative.
Chief Sam Dotson held a roll call in the Fountain Park and Lewis Place neighborhoods on Thursday morning.
Since the hot-spot policing began earlier this month, there has been a 15 percent decrease in crime in the area.
Officers arrested more than 23 people with more than seven charges being filed against those suspects.
“So it is making a difference. So what we’re doing today is the second phase and coming in behind the weeding out the criminals, trying to leave the neighborhood a little better than we found it,” said Chief Dotson.
On Thursday, officers went door-to-door offering services and boarded up vacant buildings.
