ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -- St. Charles County has its website back online after it was hacked into Tuesday.
Officials say someone took over the county’s website early Tuesday morning and accessed five of the County's department homepages. The problem was fixed by mid morning and nothing sensitive was stolen.
“They accessed five of the home pages of five of our departments and that was it, put up some infortmation saying the site has been hacked and that was all- just five pages,” said St. Charles County Development Director Jennifer George. “ They didn’t access any information they just put up their message and that was all.”
Officials say the hacker left a trace to Indonesia, but a computer security expert says it’s likely a false trail and the hacker may never be caught.
