(KMOV) – Authorities say a man claiming to have explosives is in custody after he barricaded himself in his home during a nearly seven-hour standoff in Granite City Wednesday morning.

According to police, authorities said a man living in the 2200 block of Delmar told officers he was suicidal and claimed to have weapons and explosives.

Authorities said several homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution and tactical units took over the negotiations.

Police said during the negotiations, the suspect got onto the roof of the front porch, where he remained for several hours armed with a knife.

Authorities said he eventually entered the home through a front window around 10:45 a.m. He was then taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluations.

Police said a bomb squad was going through the home to check for explosives.

Additional information was not immediately available.
