ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Lambert Airport on Thursday was full of 4,000 excited soldiers from Fort Leonard Wood all focused on getting home for the holidays.
“I think it is really important for the soldiers to get back to their families,” U.S. Army Captain Nick Cosmas said. “Whether it’s sharing the holidays with members of their faith or getting some downtime and relaxation or exchanging presents with their loved ones, it’s really important especially for those deployed in the past.”
Most of the soldiers at the airport had mid-morning or early afternoon flights. All the soldiers News 4 talked to said they were not worried about being delayed due to a winter storm expected to hit the St. Louis area.
But Commanding General of Fort Leonard Wood Mark Yenter admits many of his soldiers will probably get caught in the poor weather.
“Once [the soldiers] are in the system, they will be affected like everybody else traveling,” Commanding General Yenter said.
