GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOV) -- A man fleeing from police during traffic stop slammed into a home in Granite City Tuesday night.

Police said an officer attempted to pull over the driver of a late-model BMW when the driver took off.

The car then slammed into the front of a house in the 2400 block of Kilarney Drive, tearing through the home's brick facade.

The homeowner, Terry Lewis, says he was in a chair in the front room watching TV when the car hit the house.

"It sounded like a bomb went off," said Lewis.

He suffered minor cuts.  His teenage daughter was in another room working on homework.  She was not hurt.

After the crash, the officer saw the driver running away on foot, limping down the street. Police took the man into custody.

Police said the vehicle had license plates registered to a dealership in the St. Louis area. Officers were investigating who owned the vehicle.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment before he was booked.
