CLAYTON, Missouri (KMOV.com) -- Crews battled a fire at a local elementary school Thursday morning in Clayton, Missouri.

The fire started around 2 a.m. at Wilson Elementary School located at 400 De Mun Avenue.

According to authorities, the fire started in the attic area.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the attic and helped limit damage to the rest of the building.

Wilson Elementary holds 200 students from pre-kindergarten to the Sixth grade.  According to reports, students are on spring break this week.  They are scheduled to return to school on April 2, but it is not yet known if the fire will delay their return date.

Fire officials said the building did not suffer any significant structural damage and is safe to enter.  A restoration crew was called to determine the extent of damage and start the clean up process.

It is not clear if anyone was in the building when the fire started, but no injuries were reported.

So far, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
