Raw: Construction worker dies after being struck on I-55

STE. GENEVIEVE COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Authorities said a construction worker was struck and killed on Interstate 55 in Ste. Genevieve County Monday morning.

According to reports, the accident happened around 10:45 a.m. near Bloomsdae, Missouri.  The victim worked for a private construction company who had been hired by MoDOT.  A Missouri Highway Patrol official said the worker was in a construction zone when they were struck by an oncoming vehicle.

Police have shut down the interstate in the area while crews work to clear the scene.  Traffic is being diverted onto a side road.
