(KMOV.com) -- A 2-year-old child was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the chest in north St. Louis County Friday morning.

Authorities said the shooting happened inside a home in the 400 block of Midlothian Road.

Police have not released any details about how the child was shot.

The child was taken to Christian Northeast Hospital for treatment, but was later airlifted to Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police are questioning the father, who drove the injured child to the hospital, in an effort to piece together what happened.  The mother is still in the house.  Both parents are cooperating with police.

Officer Rick Eckhard said multiple weapons were recovered from the home and investigators are trying to figure out which weapon caused the injury.  Eckhard added that a 3-year-old girl was also in the home at the time of the shooting, but she was not injured.
