(KMOV) -- Police are investigating after a political flier encouraging violence against St. Jacob, Illinois mayor was distributed to area mailboxes.

The flier showed photos of Ray Muniz and his family in the cross hairs. It arrived in a plain white envelope to the St. Jacob residents with no return address. The photos were taken from the family’s Facebook page.

Moniz says the flier said “ballots are bullets,” depicting St. Jacob voters as a man with an automatic weapon.

It also said the mayor is a bully and supervises village workers with threats and intimidation.
“My first reaction was just utter shock; I was stunned to see the kids in the cross hair and Trina in the cross hair.  I’m tough-skinned, it’s part of the game I play, what I would expect from this job, but that was just utter shock, Muniz told News 4.

Muniz has been mayor of St. Jacob for 12 years. The town has about 1,100 residents and his position has a salary of $750.
