(KMOV) – A woman faces charges after she allegedly stole up to $20,000 from the students of a St. Louis County high school musical program

Abbie Carr, 38, was charged June 28 with stealing over $500.

According to court documents, Carr was treasurer of the booster organization for the Ritenour High School orchestra, choir and band programs between November 26 and January 17. The organization is responsible for raising money to pay for students travel and various events.

Authorities said after the band and orchestra directors began receiving emails from vendors, they learned the organization’s bank account had been depleted of thousands of dollars.

Police said they also discovered a $1,500 check had been cashed by Carr and that at least one deposit listed by her on her transaction ledger had not actually been made.

Carr was arrested and admitted to stealing about $6,000 from the program. But according to prosecutors, the musical director and organization’s president thinks Carr might have stolen as much as $20,000.

Carr’s bond was set at $5,000.
