Victim identified in fatal Fred Weber Quarry industrial accident

(KMOV) -- A St. Peters man killed in an industrial accident at the Fred Weber Inc. Quarry in Maryland Heights Wednesday evening has been identified.

Officials with Pattonville Fire Department say the accident involving a piece of industrial equipment happened around 4 p.m. at the Fred Weber Inc. quarry located at 2320 Creve Coeur Mills Road.

According to a spokesperson with Fred Weber, William Sievert was killed during a routine rock blasting operation when he was buried under several tons of rock.

Fred Weber officials say Sievert was a 24-year veteran with the company.

Pattonville fire crews were on the scene until late Wednesday evening the investigation as to what caused the accident continues.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has been notified and Fred Weber Inc. plans to fully cooperate with their investigation.
