(KMOV) -- A Pattonville School District middle school music teacher is accused of explaining how to roll a marijuana joint to 7th graders.

Orlanda Jackson told News 4 her 12-year-old daughter got the unexpected lesson last week in guitar class at Holman Middle School.

“I was very upset because the simple fact I do not send my child to school to learn about drugs,” Jackson said.

Students were apparently being taught how to play the folk song, “Puff The Magic Dragon”, a song that has long been rumored to contain veiled references to marijuana use.

A Pattonville School District spokesperson says the district has spoken with the teacher and handled the matter confidentially, although the teacher is still in class.

Mickey Schoonover, Director of Community Relations for the school district, said “our policy and our part is to teach kids not to use drugs and alcohol at all.”
