FENTON, Mo. (KMOV) – Police arrested a woman who allegedly left her 9-year-old son inside a Fenton hotel room while she went out drinking.
Police said two employees of Kyvon Telecommunications off Bolger Ct. called authorities after finding items and a purse belonging to 29-year-old Denise Cooke in the parking lot early Monday morning.
Authorities said information found in the purse led officers to the Stratford Inn in the 800 block of South Highway Drive. That’s where they found Cooke's 9-year-old son alone in the room.
Authorities said Cooke, who's from Indianapolis, Indiana, returned to the hotel sometime Monday afternoon. She told police she had gone out for a few drinks and did not intend to leave her child alone for so long.
Police said they did not know exactly how long Cooke was gone. She now faces child endangerment charges.
Officials said Cooke's son would be taken into protective custody until further notice.
Authorities said It was not known if she had family in the St. Louis area or how her belongings ended up in the nearby parking lot.
