MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO (KMOV.com) – Maryland Heights firefighters had to rescue residents of an apartment complex after a fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
The blaze began in the Cedar Trace Apartments in the 2000 block of McKinley Hill Drive.
Crews first on the scene found heavy smoke and fire on the third floor and saw residents of the third floor out on balconies where they had fled to escape the smoke and fire.
Some fire personnel moved inside and fought the blaze on the third floor, while other crews put up ladders and rescued residents trapped on balconies.
There were no injuries, but the fire heavily damaged a total of eight units on the second and third floors.
The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen of one of the apartments and is not considered suspicious at this time.
