(KMOV) – A St. Louis man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he attacked a woman in the Central West End, knocking her out and stealing her money and phone.

Muhammed Watson, 38, pleaded guilty in January to second-degree robbery for the crime in May 2011.

According to prosecutors, a woman was walking to get coffee in the Central West End when Watson walked up and started choking her.

“Don’t say word,” he reportedly told the woman until he choked her to the point of unconsciousness. He then stole the woman’s phone and money.

When she woke up lying on the sidewalk, she ran to the coffee shop and called police. She was able to provide a description of Watson, who was found by police near Children’s Hospital about 30 minutes later. According to prosecutors, he still had the phone and money with him.

Prosecutors said Watson has been in and out of prison since the early 1990s. He’s been convicted in numerous crimes, including assault, drugs, burglary, robbery and possession of a weapon in a correctional facility.
