FENTON, Mo (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis man was pulled out of the Meramec River just south George Winter Park near Fenton Wednesday.
Gerald Shockley,54, was swimming at Points Peak around 4 p.m. and kept going deeper underwater to see how far down he could go.
Police said on his fourth attempt, he resurfaced face down.
After he was pulled out of the water, rescuers performed CPR on the man, who was reportedly coughing up water.
He was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in critical condition.
