Stabbing suspect missing after long police standoff in Velda City

Man barricades himself in home

VELDA CITY, Mo (KMOV.com) – Velda City police are searching for the suspect who barricaded himself in a home late Wednesday night.

Police say the suspect was in an argument with another man on the porch of the home on the 7100 block of Edison when the conflict escalated around 8 p.m. The man was then allegedly stabbed by the suspect. 

The victim was then taken by a third person to the Beverly Hills Police Department and was later taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The suspect barricaded himself in the house when police arrived.

After a long standoff, St. Louis County Tactical officers were able to make entry into the house just before 2 a.m. Thursday morning to find the suspect missing.

Police say the suspect is well-known by officers and recently served a long prison sentence. Authorities would not confirm what he was imprisoned for. 

Details into the suspect's whereabouts are unknown at this time.
