(KMOV.com) – Franklin and Jefferson Counties are the first law enforcement agencies in the St. Louis area to utilize new mobile applications to help fight crime.

The apps, developed by a company called Appriss, allows users to look up crime news and information on suspects currently in jail.

In the future, expanded services such as amber alerts, crime notification and suspect information, and warnings of emergency situations like lockdowns or manhunts.

Users will be able to sign up for alerts when offenders are released. The company plans to create an app for each county as well as St. Louis police.
