RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Mo (KMOV.com) -- Richmond Heights Police say a burglar walked through a home stealing the residents' belongings while the homeowners slept.

The frightening burglary occurred in early November in the exclusive Lake Forest subdivision.

Police say the suspect got into the home through an open garage door and stole a desktop computer, iPad and the family car.

Police are keeping the family’s name and address private, but the news has swept through the neighborhood of homes that go for half a million dollars or more. It is also something that police say can happen in any neighborhood. An open door is really an open invitation to a criminal.

The car has been recovered, according to police, but the burglar has not been caught.

Richmond Height Police encourage everyone to secure their homes. An open window or door opens up the perfect opportunity for a criminal to get inside your home and take personal items or even harm your family.
