BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Swansea man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl was brought to police by his own family, News 4 learned on Thursday.

Belleville police arrested Cedric Pollard late Tuesday. Pollard’s nephew, Jirrell Dawson, told said he found his uncle in East Saint Louis and drove him back to his home in Belleville, where police arrested him.

Officers say Pollard sexually assaulted a five year old girl at a home in the 1700 block of Barbary Way in Swansea.

Family member or not, Dawson says he wanted his uncle off the streets.

“Like I told me family, ‘I’m going to find him. I’m going to find him. He’s going to get what’s coming to him,’” he said.  “We wanted to hurt him. We really wanted to hurt him but at the same time when I did find him, I had my son in the car and I had to think of his well-being too.”

Police say the little girl was taken to the hospital and is doing OK.

Pollard is being held in the Saint Clair County Jail and faces one count of predatory sexual assault.
