(KMOV) -- Jefferson County authorities have identified a man whose body was found inside a burned-out home in High Ridge Tuesday morning.

The fire broke out around 4 a.m. in the 1400 block of Ridge Rd. Neighbors told fire officials they heard an explosion, then saw the house on fire.

Crews from the High Ridge Fire Department arrived to the scene and attempted to contain the fire before sounding a second alarm because the flames reached the roof of the home. Other departments assisted in getting the fire under control.

Authorities searched the home and found a body, who was identified as 24-year-old Charles Odell of Fenton. Authorities said Odell had been staying at the home by himself.

Police say kerosene heaters were also found inside the home. Officials later learned the gas to the residence had previously been shut off.

Authorities believe the home was under foreclosure at the time of the blaze. They say the fire apparently began in a bedroom.
