COLLINSVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) -- Ameren IL says power is restored in Metro East. After approximately 4,000 outages Thursday afternoon, the company says all power was restored as of 8 p.m.
According to a company spokesperson, the outage began at about 4 pm due to devices failing on a transformer. The transformer faulted and caused a second transformer to fail.
This caused the Collinsville Cloverleaf substation, which served close to 5,000 customers, to lock out, creating the large outage. Ameren says the system is designed to lockout and is a protection feature to prevent further damage to the system.
The company says the outage was not related to the heat. Despite this being the hottest day of the year, they say it had nothing to do with grid capacity. The spokesperson says the outage could have happened any day of the year.
