O'FALLON, IL (KMOV.com) -- Firefighters have extinguished a morning fire that broke out inside a city storage building in O'Fallon, Illinois.

Authorities said the fire started just before 6:30 a.m. in the 300 block of West 2nd Street.  When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy smoke coming from the center section of the building.

City officials said the building is a garage for the public works department.  Reportedly, several service vehicles were inside, but workers were able to get a couple vehicles out of the building before the fire intensified.

There's no word on what caused fire.  Investigators expect to learn more later on Friday.
