(KMOV.com) -- An 18-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after a police chase in south St. Louis County.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, police stopped the suspect in the area of Grand Boulevard near Osage Street in South St. Louis County and asked him to get out of his vehicle.

According to officers, the man put his vehicle in reverse, almost hitting a police officer, and fled the scene east on Osage.

The man reportedly hit a car with three people inside, including an 87-year-old woman. The suspect then attempted to escape on foot but was captured by police after a short pursuit in the area.

A 16-year-old girl he was with was also arrested at the scene. She was taken to the hospital for a wellness check, then transferred over to juvenile authorities.

The 87-year-old victim was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. The conditions of the other two victims are unknown but do not appear to be life threatening.
