St. Louis Police say the body found in a dumpster is a 16-year-old girl.
Police are not releasing a name at this time, just the fact that she was only 16, a high school-aged girl.
Those who live and work nearby are upset tonight.
Crown Candy has watched over this neighborhood since 1913.
Despite the obvious signs of economic decline, Crown Candy owner Mike Karandzieff says this is a quiet neighborhood where neighbors know neighbors. But detectives say they don't know of any missing persons reports involving a 16-year-old in this area.
A man looking for aluminum cans found the girls body Wednesday in a dumpster near 13th and Warren.
Detectives say the teen's body showed signs of trauma to the face.
It's a shocking crime to a neighborhood on the upswing.
Karandzieff said, "It is very out of the ordinary, usually it's quiet around here, it's on the way up."
Initially detectives said they had no missing persons reports for a young women in that area.
They may release the name of the victim on Friday.
