Raw: 1 person dead after car catches fire in Hazelwood

HAZELWOOD, Mo.  (KMOV)— Authorities are investigating after a person died when their vehicle struck a traffic pole and caught fire in Hazelwood late Monday night.

Police say the victim somehow lost control of the vehicle and struck the base of a traffic light in the 5800 block of Lindbergh Boulevard near McDonnell Boulevard about 11:59 p.m.

Officers arrived on scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Authorities extinguished the blaze and found an occupant inside the vehicle.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no immediate word on what caused the wreck.
