Raw: Woman leads police on chase through Fairview Heights

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV) – A woman is in custody after leading police on a chase through Fairview Heights Sunday night.

According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department, officers attempted to make a drug stop on a female driver late Sunday evening in the Fairview Heights area.

As the officer was getting out of the police cruiser, the female driver fled the scene, almost hitting the officer.

Belleville Police later spotted the car at Route 161 and Dutch Hollow Road at approximately 1 a.m.

Officers began chasing the vehicle about 20 minutes as the suspect reached speeds up to 65 miles per hour on Frank Scott Parkway.

The chase ended after the suspect drove over spike strips near Route 157 and Route 15.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.

No formal charges have been filed at this time.
