ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Police say a homicide detective was injured when a car slammed into his vehicle as he was responding to a call for help Friday night.
The officer was driving northbound on Vandeventer when he ran a red light near I-44 with lights and sirens on, according to police.
Several cars stopped to let the detective pass through the intersection, but officials said one car kept going and struck the detective's unmarked vehicle.
The officer was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital with injuries to his leg and hand.
According to police, he was responding to an "officer in need of aid" call and reports of shots fired. Police later cleared the call for aid.
Police officials have not released any information on the other driver in the accident.
