Lightning ignites fire at Midtown St. Louis church

(KMOV.com) -- Fire officials say lightning struck a church, causing a fire in Midtown St. Louis on Tuesday.

Authorities said the fire began at the Rock Chapel Church in the 3000 block of Caroline around 6 a.m.

Fire officials said they were able to contain the fire before it was able to spread to the chapel.

Officials said the rear of the church sustained an unknown amount damage.

It was not known if anyone was inside the building when the lightning struck.
