CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A woman captured video of a fire at an apartment complex in Chesterfield after she was forced to leave her home due to the blaze.

The fire started around 2 a.m. in the 15000 block of Elk Ridge Lane at the Shoettler Village Apartments.

Officials said 10 of the 21 residents living in the complex had to be rescued because the fire alarm did not sound. Many of the residents were unaware their building was on fire until firefighters kicked in their apartment door and helped them out of the building.

The apartment building suffered serious damage and multiple units are considered to be unlivable.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
