(KMOV.com) -- More than 300 runners took part in the third annual “I love Forest Park Forest 5K run/walk” Saturday morning.

This is the only run held in Forest Park that directly benefits the maintenance of the park.

Runner Niki Myers turned out to the run with her 9-year-old son Kal and she was surprised her son ran more than a mile.

“At Conway School they do a mile run every year ever since he started Kindergarten, so he’s participated in that,” Niki Myers said, “And so this was his next challenge and he did great. Our goal was to not walk at all and we achieved it.”

Kal echoed his mom’s excitement about the run.

“It was great,” said Kal Myers, “And we got our goal by not walking.”

News 4’s Jasmine Huda emceed the event with a megaphone in hand. KMOV was a sponsor of the run.

The top male and female winners of the race each received a year-long membership to Forest Park Forever and a tree dedicated in their honor.
