Video: Plane crash in St. Louis County sends one person to hospital

St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – One person was taken to a hospital after a plane crashed and caught fire closing Mo. Route 364 near the Veterans Bridge in west St. Louis County early Thursday morning.

Around 5:00 a.m., a single-engine aircraft crashed just east of the Veterans Bridge, roughly 15 feet from the roadway, near the Page Ave. Extension closing both directions of the roadway.

Authorities said the plane was fully engulfed in flames following the crash. 

According to authorities, the pilot was able to make it out of the downed plane and call dispatch. Authorities said no one else was inside the aircraft at the time of the incident. 

An officer on the scene said the pilot was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition. 

Crews opened the westbound lanes of Mo. Route 364 about 30 minutes after the crash. About an hour after the plane crash, crews reopened two eastbound lanes of the roadway. 

No other details were immediately available.
