Valley Park schools using MMA to help troubled students

(KMOV.com) -- The Valley Park School District receives roughly twenty percent of its student body from St. Louis city through the voluntary transfer program.

The student population is diverse and spans various socioeconomic backgrounds.

Some kids have problems at home, which can lead to crises in the classroom.

The children who are facing the biggest challenges are channeling their energies into mixed martial arts.

Teachers tell News 4’s Andre Hepkins how it’s helping boys take bad behavior and make it good.
