(KMOV.com) -- Two former St. Louis archbishops have been demoted by Pope Francis.

The Vatican announced cardinals Raymond Burke and Justin Rigali have lost their posts on the Congregation for Bishops.

The committee nominates priests to be bishops worldwide.

In Monday’s shake up, Pope Francis stripped half the members on the board of their tenure.
