(KMOV.com) — St. Louis County police arrested two juveniles on charges of animal abuse Thursday after a video surfaced of a boy abusing a dog.

The video, which showed the dog being body slammed and punched, sparked outrage on Facebook and was sent to News 4 by numerous viewers.

St. Louis County Police say two juveniles were arrested shortly after the video was brought to their attention, and the dog was taken into custody by animal control and is being treated for injuries.

“The County Police Department takes these incidents very seriously and we have a zero tolerance approach towards the inhumane treatment of animals," said Officer Brian Schellman said.

The video went viral on Facebook, and had thousands of shares before getting removed from the social media site.

Police have not identified the suspects because of their age.
